Thunder Blunder

Thunder is an English hard rock band from London formed in 1989. I only recently discovered them and their great sound. The band’s latest All The Right Noises is a solid effort in a music world devoid of classic sound with modern context. All The Right Noises also includes political commentary, which I have to say is refreshing to see.

However, while I can appreciate the music and the band’s use of it to push their world view – they couldn’t be more offbeat. Song The Smoking Gun is one of two Trump hit pieces. The sound and lyric writing on The Smoking Gun is wonderful yet incredibly flawed.

Comments from a recent interview give some clear insight into the minds behind the music:

“Yes. It feels like we‘ve gone backwards. I don’t even remember it being this bad in the ’seventies. I find that deeply sad. Dreadful. The thing about Europe, particularly, I found baffling. Well, I know how it happened – people like [Nigel] Farage were whipping up that terrible sense of fear and xenophobia. And there was Trump…”

“Morley is pointing to Force Of Nature, which Bowes recognises as one of “two songs that you could level at the orange buffoon, as I call him… Luke wrote it first-person, trying to be inside his mind. I wouldn’t say I tried to channel the buffoon – the song is hard enough anyway, technically – but the lyrics do.”

Calling Farage a xenophobe is a myopic childish view of a broader conversation such addle minds have yet to engage. Those that so easily want to dispose any vestige of their own sovereignty to unelected powers like an EU are what Vladimir Lenin described as “useful idiots.”

While it may feel like “we’ve gone backwards” to the band, it also felt like that to Angela Merkel. On August 24, 2015, German Chancellor Angela Merkel answered yes, we’ll take a million immigrants. One year later she sounded a bit different:

“We didn’t embrace the problem in an appropriate way. That goes as well for protecting the external border of the Schengen area”, the German Chancellor said in an interview, finally admitting some responsibility for the migrant crisis.”

Joe Biden (the non-orange buffoon) channeled Mrs. Merkel’s “we can do this” slogan. Joe said he “knew what to do” about COVID19, but apparently all he knew to do was push out Trump’s warp speed vaccines. What else has he done? Nothing.

Well, that isn’t fair, to be honest, he has done a lot more in a short period of time!

Inflation is up and 80% of Americans blame Biden.

America is no longer energy independent and gas prices are up 40% thanks to Biden.

Do I need to talk about Afghanistan, even liberal CNN posted “Biden deserves blame for the debacle in Afghanistan

“Biden’s First 100 Days | 100 Failures” outlines the many actions President Biden has taken to create the Biden Border Crisis, keep schools closed, kill American jobs, issue extreme environmental regulations, implement controversial and divisive policies at schools and in the workplace, enact massive government spending, and more.

Let’s look at the real smoking gun using the song’s lyrics:

He rode into town – Biden hid in a basement while the press flew cover

Timed it to perfection – Biden with the help of a media that covered up Hunter’s laptop and China dealings did time it to perfection

Clear in his unhinged mind – Biden has almost no mind left and is clearly suffering cognitive decline

The day had come for insurrection – Well wrong again, “FBI confirms there was no insurrection on Jan. 6

I could do this all day, but the effort will be lost on Vladimir Lenin’s favorite people.

UPDATE:

In less than 8 months, Biden has gotten 12 US troops killed, trapped Americans behind enemy lines, left the Taliban $10 billion in military equipment, lost our national energy independence, collapsed our southern borders, increased gas and food prices, cause inflation to spike and he and his son are compromised by China.

It is unlikely the Thunder boys will be writing a song about “lunch bucket Joe” (who has never held a real job) – so we decided to fix the Smoking Gun lyrics for them. Hope they like it!

  1. A friend shared this post with me. Makes me wonder if musicians should engage in politics. I was a big fan of the band but this has caused me pause. They have a right to their own opinion, I just thought with that kind of talent they were smarter. Since this was written it has even gotten worse with Biden. The US was so much better under Trump.
